Almost always a non-starting motor failure is due to a failed stationary switch (start switch). A small percentage of failures are due to a failed start capacitor.
I have made over 20 non-starting motors work properly again by replacing the switch. However I make it a practice to change the capacitor at the same time.
Most motors were about 5 years old when I replaced these parts and so far none have failed again after another 5 years of service.
It takes about 20 minutes to replace both the switch and capacitor and is easily done with simple hand tools.
Instructions - see photos:
1) Remove the motor from it's cradle buy removing the front and rear motor clamps. (I find it easier to leave the cradle in the dryer.)
2) Put a mark across the end bells and motor case in order to have them oriented correctly when the motor is put back together.
3) Remove the motor skewer bolts using a nut driver or ratchet wrench.
4) Use a flat screw driver to pry the end bell on the back end of the motor away from the casing.
5) Use the nut driver again to remove the screws that hold the switch to the end bell.
6) I find it best to move one wire at a time to the new switch.
(At this point it might be a good to check the motor bearings by spinning them by hand while checking for any binding.)
7) Reverse the order to put the motor back together.
8) Remove the capacitor cover and replace the capacitor.
The last photo is just to show what a burned start switch contact looks like (left) compared to t a new switch (right)
The main purpose of this ebay listing is informational. There is no need to throw away these motor. Perhaps you can find the switch and capacitor for less money elsewhere.
Some laundry owners have preferred that I install these parts in their motor. If this is something you prefer just send me an e-mail through the ebay system.
If you would like to discuss your idler issue or any other ADC dryer issue feel free to write. We will be happy to help.
Thank you
