    Description

    CARL SCHLIPER "REMSCHEID"
    This is quite an interesting piece. These short machetes has been manufactured since around 1754 (some sources say 1789), when the company Carl Schlieper was founded in Remscheid-Hasten (near Solingen, Nordrhein-Westfalen, Germany).
    It is hard to say excactly when this this exact piece was manufactured. But, depending on which source you quote, it is either from before 1898, when the company moved it's adress to Solingen - or before 1970, where some sources claim that the last of the company's production was finally moved from Remscheid to Solingen. It is quite confusing; apparently the company Carl Schlieper has closed down and re-opened and/or moved adress quite a few times, untill it's final closure in 1999.
    The famous eye logo, the name Carl Schlieper and the trade mark "Eye Brand" are still being used in the US, by Carl Schlieper's old American distributor.
    Considering the almost pristine condition of this piece, I would say that it is a rather late piece. But whether it is 1890s or rather 1970s, is impossible for me to determine. Maybe someone with more knowledge will chime in on this?
    KNIFE IN VERY GOOD  CONDITION FOR THE AGE. GOOD STRONG SNAP IN ALL BLADES. TINY WOBBLE ON A MAIN BLADE, ANOTHER 2 WITH NO WOBBLE. MAIN BLADE STAMPED "MADE IN GERMANY", TANG STAMPED "CARL SCHLIPER REMSCHEID" AND EAE LOGO ON ANOTHER SIDE. BEAUTIFUL HAND CARVED BONE (HORN??) HANDLE IN EXELENT CONDITION.
    CLOSED - 4". MAIN BLADE - 3 1/16".
    Used with some storeage scratches and minimal rust.
