Charlie Ruggles 1936 Mary Boland Paramount Pictures PHOTO Disneyland InspirationCharlie Ruggles 1936 Mary Boland Paramount Pictures PHOTO Disneyland Inspiration
Historic Disneyland Auctions by Saturday's Toys presents...
a vintage 8" x 10" photo of Charlie Ruggles with Mary Boland in their 1936 film of "Early To Bed"... co-starring Billy Gilbert (the voice of Sneezy in Walt Disney's Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs).
The film was released on June 5, 1936... and twenty years later... Charlie Ruggles had proved to be the inspiration for Disneyland's China and Glass Shop on Main Street, U.S.A. Reverse of photo (as shown) shows a caption about this scene from the film).
Ruggles had also appeared in the Paramount Film of "If I Had a Million" (1932) as Mr. Henry Peabody... the shop owner who won a million dollars and decided he no longer wanted to responsible for the china and glass breakage of his customers!
Meanwhile, movie-goers Phil and Sophie Papel saw the film... and determined that Ruggles would be the perfect inspiration for their own china shop on Main Street, U.S.A. at Disneyland in 1955... known as "Ruggles Glass and China Shop".
Ruggles would go one to be included in several of Walt Disney's final films... including "The Parent Trap"... "The Ugly Dachshund" and "Follow Me, Boys!" And could the Beverly Hillbillies be far beyond?!
8" x 10"; excellent condition; an amazing survivor for the past eight decades... and a worthy survivor for decades to follow.

Saturday’s Toys and Disneyana Auctions
was founded in 1994 by Southern California author and Disney historian, Dave Mason. Soon after eBay's launch the following year, Saturday's Toys was among the first Disneyana specialists to strategize in embracing this rapidly developing technology. Having delivered over 10,000 coveted Disney treasures since then, Saturday's Toys is pleased to partner with researchers, collectors and friends throughout the world with a shared interest in the preservation of authentic and accurate Disney history.
Today, online offerings of archival Disneyana keepsakes are presented in celebration of the extended times that allow for family, friends and neighbors to join in memorable gatherings that nurture the strong connections that bind a community together. These treasures are affectionately known as "Saturday's Toys." In that light we present our adopted motto (with a tip of the cap to the Sherman Brothers):
"Oh, let's go fly a kite!"
