Description
For sale is one:Vintage Friedr. Herder Abr. Sohn Carbon Pocket Knife
.
This antique pocket knife is marked "[ace of spades] FRIEDR. HERDER ABR. SOHN SOLINGEN-GERMANY". It is in good vintage condition. The edge is exceptional, minimally worn. The blade is carbon steel and the handles dark hardwood. It features a slipjoint mechanism with a very powerful spring. Mild play in blade. The scales are in very good condition with only superficial weathering cracks on one scale and no splits. The wood and metal tolerances are quite good with minor gaps from apparent shrinking at the edges but an overall tight fit at the middle. The liner is very good with only minor surface oxidation. The handle is drilled for a bail, but there is no installation wear, which seems to indicate it is not missing, or was removed by the first owner. Markings would seem to indicate manufacture in the late 1800s, no earlier than 1887, or possibly early 1900s; but I am not an expert, and you must ultimately make your own appraisal. Apart from oiling the hinge, the knife is as I found it and uncleaned. It measures approximately 12cm closed; 21.4
cm open; and 9.3cm blade from the end-of-ricasso to the point. Please see photographs for details.
