Description
This is the famous "dogs head", KA-BAR coke bottle folding hunter pocketknife from the 1920's and 1930's. These pocketknives were highly collected and the "dogs head" model of KA-BAR knives was one of the most desirable. This example has the Union Cutlery stamping on the back of the single blade, with the old style "KA-BAR" stamping on the front side. In addition, this knife has a "match striker" pull on the main blade. Overall length is 9 1/2 inches with blade opened. Blade length is 4 1/4 inches.
The original celluloid handle was cracked and deteriorated, so the knife was professionally re-handled in genuine, initiation tortoise celluloid handles. These handles certainly have a more striking appearance than the original light yellow cracked handles. The celluloid fits tight against the top and bottom bolster with no lifting of the handle material.
The blades are totally full, with good snap both opening and closing.
A very striking pocketknife with shades of dark browns and lighter yellow highlights in the handle material.
