    Description

This is a quarter dozen (3) pruner, aka hawkbill knives made by Sabre in Japan, marked with pattern number 645.  Knives are 3-7/8 inches closed and 6-7/8 inches with single hawkbill blade open.  Blade tang stamped:  Sabre  JAPAN  645.  Handles are a tropical hardwood; I don't know the species.  Liners are steel and bolsters are nickel silver; they are barehead knives, so no cap bolster.
Condition is used - NKCA - Mint in original boxes.  I only unwrapped one of the three knives to take photos; the other two have been left in their aluminum foil wrapping to preserve the integrity of their mint condition.  Handles have no chips, cracks, or damage.  The blade of the knife I opened has tiny pits at the tip - see photos.  Blades are full and unused with half stop, good snap and no wobble.  Photos are explicitly part of this description.
Historically, knives were sold to retailers by the dozen, half dozen and quarter dozen.  This is a NOS (new old stock) package of a quarter dozen knives; again, I have only unwrapped one knife to preserve the integrity of the packaging.  Note, these are an economy grade knife, not high quality Japanese cutlery.  What is most collectible about them is that they are a mint, quarter dozen set in their original packaging.
Sabre was a trademark used by Cole National Corp. of Cleveland, Ohio.  They imported knives from Germany, Ireland and Japan and also had knives produced domestically.  Coles National was founded in 1949 and has grown into a massive specialty retailer.  They imported knives from 1960 to 1980.  Their current focus is on optical products (Pearl Vision) and personalized gifts (Things Remembered).
Ships with USPS Priority Mail (because of size and weight).
Thanks for looking and please check my other listings.
I collected knives from 1992 until about 2000 and have decided to sell my collection.
I usually list about 10 knives a week.
Hope you see something you like.
